Thank you to the many constituents who sent me invitations to the APPG on Motor Neurone Disease.
The meeting was, as always, extremely well intended by Parliamentarians and I was pleased to be able to send a staff member to attend and to brief me on it. There was an update on research into MND from Dr Brian Dickie, Director of Research Development at the MND Association, followed by a report from Professor Christopher McDermott of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust. Dani, an irrepressibly positive and courageous woman who is living with MND, then shared her experience of taking part in one of the clinical trials which Professor McDermott is overseeing. It was good to be informed of a number of reasons to be hopeful, including that gene therapies for some types of MND are beginning to show promise.
