Over three weeks of work experience in Michael’s constituency office, I have greatly developed my knowledge of the British political system and my knowledge of how an MP’s constituency office is run. The staff in the office were always on hand to answer any questions, about the work at the time or about the British political system, and always kept me busy with different tasks. The work I was asked to do was varied and interesting, ranging from drafting Michael’s monthly newsletter to using the Caseworker MP software to organise and respond to constituent correspondence.

Moreover, being able to sit down and have a coffee with Michael on my second day was really insightful. I was able to understand how Michael became an MP and also how he became a Conservative. This was particularly interesting for myself as a recent graduate looking to develop my political beliefs, as I could understand how Michael had developed his.

The past few weeks have been really enjoyable working with everyone in the office and this work experience is a fantastic opportunity to better understand British politics, and how a constituency office is run. This work experience also looks fantastic on a CV for anyone wishing to move into politics, potentially by working for an MP, and I would therefore highly recommend it if you are looking to move into this field.
