Championing Education

Michael successfully campaigned for fairer funding for our schools in Poole and Dorset.  He continues to support our local teachers and schools.

One of the most enjoyable parts of my role as Member of Parliament for Mid Dorset and North Poole is visiting local schools and speaking with pupils about Parliament and what I do. I come from a family of teachers, and know that education is the key to children reaching their full potential. A good education can be the single greatest transformer of lives. From early years childcare, through primary and secondary school to college, our children deserve the best.

Ever since being elected in 2015, I have had a particular interest in education, and was pleased that schools in Mid Dorset and North Poole have benefited from better funding following our campaign to change the funding formula.  I have worked within the Department for Education alongside Government Ministers, and I was particularly pleased that England recently came fourth internationally for primary reading proficiency.
