As the heatwave engulfed London on Monday, Michael welcomed back the ‘Retained EU Law Bill’ to the House of Commons to take back control of our laws.
He opened with “It is an honour once again to open a debate on this landmark legislation”, he goes on to say “We are now very close to passing [this Bill]”.
Three motions were brought back before the house by Michael, and he urged the Lords not to insist on unnecessary, novel scrutiny thereby unreasonably delaying our crucial reforms. He explained that parliamentary scrutiny is already inbuilt into the Bill, and reaffirmed the Government will uphold our high environmental standards. Further to this, Michael warned that the ‘Lords amendment 42B’, where the disagreement lies between the Lords and MPs, may even endanger our environmental standards and add friction. Michael finished by backing the UK’s position as economically competitive, made possible by removing the shackles of our EU membership.
