At the recent Party Conference in Manchester, the Prime Minister announced plans to create the first ‘smokefree generation’, by gradually increasing the age at which it is legal to buy tobacco.
Whilst in Manchester, Michael took the opportunity to speak to the CEO of Wessex Water, Colin Skellett. Colin updated Michael with the investment and plans that Wessex Water have for Mid Dorset and North Poole, including ongoing works to reduce storm overflows.
Michael Tomlinson MP recently went to visit the Paragon team in Dorset, who work to end violence against women, children and men. They work across several counties, including Dorset, and provide a range of services, including refuges and safe houses for those leaving abusive situations.
Michel recently met Lord Shaftesbury to discuss a number of issues, including the Landscape Recovery Project "Winning the Allen". The Allen is a beautiful chalk stream, and local landowners and farmers want to protect this important landscape.
Michael visited local Wimborne business Eaton Mission Systems with Poole MP Sir Robert Syms. They discussed the company's power management work nationally and internationally.
As part of his work as Solicitor General, Michael reviews Unduly Lenient Sentences, and then can refer them back to the Court of Appeal for review. He recently referred the case of a driver who killed a young woman. The driver was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Almost £670,000 in government funding to help older people and those with disabilities to live safely and independently in their own homes has been awarded to Dorset and BCP Councils.
